About the Project
Mundane Art involves awakening the mind to see the beauty in the ordinary. There are two goals of this project. The first is to teach that anyone can create art through basic photography without fancy equipment or lessons. The second is to teach the benefit of mindfulness; while staying in the present and awakening all the senses one will finally see the beauty that surrounds among the everyday mundane.
Each day, Mundane Art will post an artistic picture that was taken with a simple iphone and edited with Be Funky FX or Color Splash, free editing software apps. The second photo will be the artistic picture before it was edited. Lastly, and most importantly, Mundane Art will post a zoomed out shot taken of the scene from where the artistic shot was captured. This will demonstrate how, without specifically looking for art among the mundane, this beauty would have been overlooked during everyday life.
Mundane Art will demonstrate that what makes an artist is the eye, not the equipment, not the lessons, not the software. It is a trait from within that needs to be awakened and cultivated. Mundane Art hopes to grow into a community where followers will submit the Mundane Art they capture in their life - including a photo of the found art and a photo of the mundane scene depicting why the art would normally be missed.
Mundane Art began posting on January 1, 2012 and hopes to feature a picture per day. For more information, contact Mundane Art at ProjectMundaneArt@gmail.com.
